Generative Geta

Inspired by the geta, a traditional Japanese shoe, this clog is designed to be a minimalistic and organic-shaped shoe that is reinforced at specific pressure points to ensure structural integrity.

A last was made from a cheap pair of sandals with arch support so that the surface could be ergonomic. The last was scanned and imported into Fusion360 and was turned into an ergonomic base for the shoe to be built on. The generative design tool in Fusion360 generated structural branches in the shoe using the applied forces and bending moments.

The result was 3D-printed in PLA filament and finished with a traditional geta strap.
